Teaching from Experience: Tracing the Path to My Calling
I found this work for my own healing. For 30 odd years I had simply been surviving, trying to get through one day at a time. I had hopes, some dreams, all of which were heavily shadowed by many false beliefs, low self-worth and distorted self-image. It wasn’t until I became a mom that I started to become aware of my wounds that I had skillfully learned to bypass. Becoming aware, or enlightened as some might say, can be a double edged sword, especially when I was still very much in the muddy waters of knowing what I wanted to be and yet never quite managing to grasp a hold of the different version of myself I longed to be. It’s as if being a puppet in your own life with the past still holding the strings and you hopelessly watching from afar.
With the help of trauma informed parenting I started to get an understanding of where my struggles were originating from. After trialing a few different modalities, I stumbled upon the Feldenkrais Method® - somatic education through movement - a process of self-discovery. It’s when I was immersed into more and more Awareness Through Movement® lessons that I started to become aware of a deep connection between moving, sensing, thinking and feeling. How limitations in one affect what’s possible in the other - how everything has a ripple effect.
I was able to start shifting decades old thinking patterns by attending to myself in movement. By growing my awareness with the help of being present to myself in movement explorations that foster my abilities to sense differences between ease and effort, freedom of breath, learning to go only as far as is truly comfortable. Coming to know what comfort even means to me, what ease means to me. When do I know I’ve gone far enough?
Learning to make a distinction between two things: 1) discomfort that comes with being engaged with something that is unfamiliar and 2) discomfort that is harmful. Learning to find curiosity and bring more playfulness into my movement explorations is what directly made it possible for me to find it in other areas of my life as well. With the gift of seeing how deeply interconnected everything is and how much more is actually possible when I attend to myself with kindness and honoring my timing, a whole new world opened up.
I am still on a journey as this work is not linear nor is it ever ending. We continue to change and grow until the day we die, but we get more skilled at life, at living with our whole self. I am still coming home to my authentic self, one exploration at a time.
What I practice is delivering lessons that are helping you on your journey towards your own unique wholeness so you can begin to live the life you’ve dreamed of. We can’t change what’s taking place outside of us but we can very much learn to have a choice in how we attend to ourselves through which a completely different world can begin to open up. I know very well what it’s like to struggle, what it’s like to feel as if there is no one home inside that beautiful body of yours, desperately longing for a change that you see no possibilities for. I am here to help ignite that deeply buried and guarded life energy of yours. It would be an honor to walk alongside you as you embark on your path of self-discovery, gently guiding you back to your true, authentic self.
With love,
Heidi
